Is there a girl out there who hasn't dreamed of twirling in the Alps and singing along to "The Sound of Music" soundtrack -- or a boy who hasn't imagined a home run ? la "Field of Dreams"?

Films have long been an inspiration to travelers looking to link the dreamy scenes depicted on the silver screen to real-life adventures.?Frommers.com chose 20 ways to recreate some classic movie scenes in Paris, Rome, London, New York City, Oahu and more great destinations around the world. (Seven are listed below; click on the slideshow below to see all 20.)

Slideshow: See all 20 scene-stealing locales

"Roman Holiday" (1953)

Where: Rome, Italy

Must-see movie locations: The Mouth of Truth, the Spanish Steps

Recreate the experience: Relive the romp around the Eternal City with Princess Ann (Audrey Hepburn) and journalist Joe Bradley (Gregory Peck) as you risk your hand inside the Mouth of Truth, eat gelato on the Spanish Steps, and spend a summer evening along the Tiber River during the annual Lungo il Tevere Roma festival.

"From Here to Eternity" (1953)

Where: Oahu, Hawaii

Must-see movie location: Halona Cove

Recreate the experience: The tiny cove is called The Peering Place, and the whole world peered in on Karen (Deborah Kerr) and Sgt. Warren (Burt Lancaster) as they kissed passionately on the small crescent of sand and surf. You can too if you'd like, or just hold hands.

"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer?s Stone" (2001)

Where: London, England; Glencoe, Scotland

Must-see movie locations: King's Cross Railway Station,?Glencoe

Recreate the experience: Board the Hogwarts Express with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his pals on Platform 9?. For mere mortals that's between Platforms 3 and 4, at King's Cross Railway Station. Chug to the spectacular Scottish scenery highlighted in every film and visit Glencoe, the Highland glen where Hagrid's Hut (among other movie sets) once stood.

"Goldeneye" (1995)

Where: Monte Carlo, Monaco

Must-see movie location: Casino de Monte-Carlo (?10 entry)

Recreate the experience: Fast cars and far-flung places are hallmarks of every James Bond flick, but Monte Carlo exudes 007 swagger better than the rest. Engage in your own tryst with lady luck, as Bond (Pierce Brosnan) did at the principality's legendary casino. The line of cars out front -- Bond pulls up in an Aston Martin DB5 -- would make any tuxedo-clad spy jealous.

"The Talented Mr. Ripley" (1999)

Where: Ischia, Italy

Must-see movie Location: Bagno Antonio beach

Recreate the experience: The fictitious seaside village of Mongibello, where Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law) and his girlfriend Marge (Gwyneth Paltrow) while away their wealthy lifestyle, is actually the island of Ischia. Take a ferry from Naples and visit Bagno Antonio, the beach where Tom Ripley (Matt Damon) devises his first meeting with the couple. There are sun beds, a restaurant and plenty of dolce vita.

"The Sound of Music" (1965)

Where: Salzburg, Austria

Must-see locations: Old Town, Mirabell Park and Gardens

Recreate the experience: Skip by a few of Maria's (Julie Andrews) favorite things in Old Town, where she sings "I Have Confidence in Me" while crossing Residenzplatz and splashing in Residenz Fountain. Or let loose in Mirabell Park and sing "Do-re-mi" just like the Von Trapp clan did.

"Shakespeare in Love" (1998)

Where: Banbury, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

Must-see location: Broughton Castle (adults $12.25, children 5-15 $6; limited opening times)

Recreate the experience: A young William Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes) -- in search of a muse -- finds one in Viola (Gwyneth Paltrow) at her home, Broughton Castle. Take a tour of the gardens as seen from Viola's window. Inside the castle, The Great Hall is where Shakespeare first meets Viola, and the Oak Room is where Lord Wessex (Colin Firth) informs Viola that she is promised to him.
